I grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon with a fascination for politics. I started attending youth parliaments when I was 14 and never looked back. I participated in national youth forums, model United Nations conferences and international events. I pursued an undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Victoria and decided to reconcile my passion for storytelling and public affairs through journalism. I’ve always been interested in the experiences of women in politics and I knew that this was the topic I wanted to explore for the major research project component of the master of journalism program at Ryerson University. My research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council through the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship. This project also made the top 25 in SSHRC’s Storytellers contest.
It’s an interesting time for women in politics in Canada and through this project, I hope to bring the accomplishments and experiences of Yukon women in politics into the Canadian narrative.
